8 Things You May Not Know About Daylight Saving Time

from an article by Christopher Klein at history.com

As you prepare to reset your watches, alarms and microwaves, explore eight facts about daylight saving time that might surprise you.

1. It’s “daylight saving time,” not “daylight savings time.”

2. Though in favor of maximizing daylight waking hours, Benjamin Franklin did not originate the idea of moving clocks forward.

3. Englishman William Willett led the first campaign to implement daylight saving time.

4. Germany was the first country to enact daylight saving time.

5. Daylight saving time in the United States was not intended to benefit farmers, as many people think.

6. For decades, daylight saving in the United States was a confounding patchwork of local practices.

7. Not everyone in the United States springs forward and falls back.

8. Evidence does not conclusively point to energy conservation as a result of daylight saving.

Miss Sam D

Smantha alt…. born and raised in Philadelphia PA, Sam began her training, competing, and performing  with Release Dance Academy at age 14. She trained in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Lyrical, Breaking, and Musical Theater. Competing, until age 17, she moved forward to further her preparation for the University of the Arts, training under Gary Jeter and Chris Ramirez; as well as classes at Broadway Dance Center.
Sam has performed with noted choreographers Dave Scott and Jersey Maniscalco who inspired her to move to Los Angeles in June 2015 to start her career as a performer. Since moving to LA, Sam has been working and training professionally in commercial dance.  She is a former member of Academy of Villains, studying under noted choreographers Christopher Jennings and Krystal Meraz. Miss Sam continues her dance education by taking numerous classes throughout the city with some the dance world’s best choreographers. Aside from dancing herself, Sam loves to share the gift of dance with people of all ages. Sam enjoys teaching young and older dancers not only dance steps, but to love what they are doing and to be knowledgeable of the evolution of dance. Teaching at various studios from Philadelphia to California, Sam is now proud to call Creation Station Studio City home. Also she absolutely adores her dog Alfred.

Exciting news ….today is her actual birthday.

DANCE TERM OF THE WEEK
Come to the desk, tell us the term and show us the move (as best as you can) and you’ll get a treat!

Fondu, fondue [fawn-DEW]

Means “Melting or Sinking down”. It describes the gradual bending the knee of the supporting leg. It is the same as a plie, but Fondu means you do the plie on only one leg.
